Doug Burgum’s Mass Censorship Campaign Targets History and Science Across America’s Parks and Public Lands
Burgum Ramps Up MAGA-Washing Censorship Campaign To Appease Trump
HELENA, MT – Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has recently ramped up his campaign of mass censorship across the country by erasing science and history. Burgum has ordered signs and exhibits about climate change, slavery, Black history, Indigenous history, and LGBTQ+ history to be removed from parks nationwide. Under this administration, instead of outdoor classrooms, America’s public lands are now Trump’s personal propaganda tools, telling a MAGA-washed version of our history.
“In addition to implementing the fail-by-design scheme laid out in Trump’s Project 2025 to sell off and privatize our natural heritage, censoring science and history has been one of Doug Burgum’s top priorities,” said Save Our Parks spokesperson Jayson O’Neill. “Smug Doug is working day and night to scrub our parks clean and censor any mentions of the climate crisis, as well as Black, Native American, and LGBTQ+ history. Burgum’s docile servitude to Trump’s feelings over the interests of the American people is undercutting our cherished national parks.”
The beginning of Black History Month is a stark reminder that Burgum and the Trump administration replaced MLK Day and Juneteenth national park fee-free entrance days with Trump’s birthday. Trump’s non-transparent and conflicted Interior Secretary is now setting his sights on censoring even more parks.
The City of Philadelphia recently filed suit against Burgum, stating that such orders violated prior agreements and were made without notice, saying that the “defendants have provided no explanation at all for their removal of the historical, educational displays at the President’s House site, let alone a reasoned one.”
