Statement: Trump And Burgum Diverting Critical National Park Police Resources For Capital Takeover

HELENA, MT – Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stood alongside Donald Trump as the president announced his unprecedented federal takeover of the nation’s capital. Sec. Burgum, whose chaotic firings, cuts, and mismanagement have pushed America’s parks and public lands to their breaking point, is now diverting even more National Park Service resources away from America's natural treasures by forcing park police to serve as Trump's personal enforcement army. Trump’s fellow authoritarian billionaire Doug Burgum even went as far as lying on national television, spreading verifiably false claims about crime in Washington, D.C. to justify the decision. 

In response, Save Our Parks spokesperson Jayson O’Neill issued the following statement:

"Billionaire Doug Burgum and Donald Trump’s mismanagement of our nation’s parks and public lands is the ultimate insult to American taxpayers. Trump and Burgum have already gutted the National Park Service, leaving our parks unsafe and understaffed. Now Burgum is lying to every American to justify using what's left of our park resources to intimidate residents of our nation's capital."
