Doug Burgum Twists Himself Into a Pretzel to Push Foreign Oil Adventurism in Venezuela
Burgum Contradicts President Trump on Taxpayers’ Role in Venezuelan Oil Infrastructure as Exports Push Prices Up
HELENA, MT – Doug Burgum needs to get his story straight. In the aftermath of the Trump administration’s military action in Venezuela, Donald Trump announced that American taxpayers may be on the hook for reimbursing companies who rebuild Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. However, Burgum, his own cabinet member and chair of Trump’s energy dominance council, said the exact opposite, and that the country’s “oil revival” wouldn’t rely on funding from the United States.
Burgum also claimed that America can accelerate Venezuelan oil production very quickly, contradicting Exxon Mobil CEO Darren Woods, who said the quiet part out loud: in reality, the country is uninvestable. This comes as U.S. domestic shale producers are issuing warnings and growing more and more concerned about Burgum’s foreign favoritism. Trump and Burgum’s domestic export push and attacks on clean energy is driving surging gas and electrical prices for Americans.
In response to Burgum twisting himself into a pretzel defending oil adventurism in Venezuela and surging gas and electrical prices, Save Our Parks spokesperson Jayson O’Neill issued the following statement:
“We know that Doug Burgum enjoys gallivanting across the globe, shilling for the Trump administration’s unpopular energy agenda on the taxpayer dime. So it’s no surprise that he’s twisting himself into a pretzel contradicting his boss as we all pay the price. Burgum can’t have it both ways, and he must clarify whether he agrees with the President’s assertion that American taxpayers will be on the hook for a doomed dirty energy adventure that is ‘uninvestible.’
“One thing is abundantly clear: From our parks and public lands to electricity prices, Burgum’s mismanagement is costly and hitting every American’s pocketbooks.”
